On Saturday, August 29, 2009 – what would have been Michael Jackson’s 51st birthday – Grammy award-winning, hip-hop icon Q-Tip presents “Long Live the King! A Birthday Celebration for Michael Jackson” at the NOKIA Theatre Times Square. Q-Tip will be joined in the DJ booth by special invited guests Grammy award-winning producer/artist Mark Ronson and the legendary DJ Spinna.
“Michael Jackson was a huge influence on my music and was an inspiration to me and so many others. I want to bring people together to celebrate the man, his music and his legacy that will undoubtedly live on forever!” states Q-Tip.

We went to check out the Dash Snow memorial at Deitch Projects. The façade of the gallery has been painted over with a giant fire extinguisher version of Dash’s tag, SACER. Inspiring and somber at the same time. Pictures, art, video and words of the artists and from those that knew him adorn the walls. It’s a shame the world lost this talented individual at such a young age.
Visitors are encouraged to bring flowers to throw into the main gallery where images of Dash and his own works are exhibited.

San Francisco based denim shop Self Edge gets set to open it’s NY doors in the LES tomorrow. The world renowned shop will feature a deep collection of Japanese denim and vintage apparel. SE has partnered with clothing line 3sixteen, which will also be carried, to open the NY location.
