Converse is launching the new Weapon Evo, which is an evolution of the original Weapon basketball shoe. To celebrate, their having a 3 on 3 basketball tournament on tomorrow, August 12th with, not actual athletes, but teams featuring Jim Jones, Pac Div, Asher Roth, Mad Decent, Matt and Kim and Fool’s Gold. Plus Hot 97’s DJ Cipha Sounds on the ones and twos and Miss Info and Peter Rosenberg hosting.

I read a review for this Freestyle Fellowship’s Innercity Griots in The Source when I was in high school (remember having to look up “griots” in the dictionary). Four years later, the DC King of Series is still here and has announced that they are holding a series of qualifying events all over the United States for this one of a kind contest to be DC King of Chicago. This contest travels to local skate spots in the cities across the globe and welcomes the best-unsponsored skateboarders to compete in a jam format contest. If you think you have skills get out there and show what you’ve got! If you need to tone up on your skills, get to it quick because the main contest is on October 10-11 and the top finishers at each qualifier will automatically have entry to DC King of Chicago. The first place qualifier at each event will most definitely get treated like a king, with full travel accommodations including flight, room, board, food and lastly a chance at the $10,000 reward.
The Jamaican roots reggae artist/song writer Tarrus Riley is on a North America 25-city tour in support of his album Contagious. He’s going to places from Toronto all the way to Jacksonville trying to meet his fans and hopefully gain some new ones. Contagious has a traditional roots reggae foundation and is topped with a new age feel. The songs are literally “contagious” as they make a smooth transition between roots rhythm and a lover’s rock. “The reason I called it ‘Contagious’ is because I would love for everyone to catch it,” Tarrus says. “I don’t want my music to have the boundaries of race, age, nationality or religion; I represent reggae, live music and I want everyone to catch onto its positive, good vibes.” Catch these vibes August 4th when the album Contagious is released.

Our good friend, Miss Va$htie Kola a/k/a Downtown’s Sweetheart, just relaunched her website. From school at SVA to creative services at Def Jam to creating the 1992 parties to directing videos to Open @ Santo’s party House with Q-Tip and Rich Medina, V$ has been killing it since she stepped on the scene. With her new site you can check her gallery of music videos (Solange, Jadakiss and Good Charlotte and more), photos, her blog (which has created quite a following) and now purchase her line Violette online. MTTM is going back to school this fall with a grown up attitude - new logo, new campaign and completely new line. The fall collection, dubbed, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” takes inspiration from the experiences that the Most Official Bitches crew went through growing up in NYC. They wanted to epitomize the unstoppable feeling of being a teenager from waking up early, taking the crowded subway to school, or maybe not even going at all. They tapped Pharrell’s protege 18-year old rapper/singer Teyana Taylor for the face of the campaign. It was shot in NY by photgrapher Brooke Nipar. Check the pics after the jump.
On August 29th, 266 pairs of a limited edition K-Swiss Classic designed by Partners & Spade. The P&S Classic is a fresh take on the all-leather tennis shoe that was first introduced at Wimbledon in 1966.
