[VIDEO] Wissam Shawkat: Letters of Love at Reed Space

Calligraphy: “artistic, stylized, or elegant handwriting or lettering” (Merriam-Webster).

Letters of Love: an expression that calligraphy should be more universal with Love being the catalyst of that message.

Wissam Shawkat is an Iraqi Calligrapher who chose his love for creativity over his civil engineering practice.  His work with calligraphy meshes a perfect blend between historical approaches and his own unique contemporary style.  Wissam has literally engineered his own style of calligraphy, an ode to truly expressing oneself.  Wissam and Jeff Staple have teamed up to bring the Letters of Love exhibit to Reed Space, which happens to be Wissam’s first visit and gallery within the United States.  Check out the video below for a recap of the opening reception and an interview with Wissam Shawkat himself.

[GEAR] KRINK x G-Shock

G-Shock has teamed up with on of the illest Mr. Craig Costello a/k/a KR a/k/a the brains behind KRINK. In line with Krink’s minimalist design aesthetic, the DW-6900KR-8 has a metallic matte silver finish (Casio pulled it out of it’s library especially for KR) and for the first time in G-Shock history, the watch will bare a full mirror face (sick!) and LCD display. They omitted all technical type from the inner ring on the face of the watch, making this piece the cleanest look G-Shock has ever produced.

From Press release:
“The new DW6900KR-8 watch is the epicenter of where art, fashion, and functionality intersect” said Shigenori Itoh, Vice President of Casio’s Timepiece Division. “The G-Shock x Krink collaboration allows our consumers the opportunity to indulge in aesthetically pleasing watches without compromising the G-Shock functionality.”

“Here at Krink, quality should never be compromised and is always worth the extra cost and effort” said Craig Costello a.k.a. Krink. “Casio mirrors the same philosophy regarding their G-Shock line of watches and it’s been a pleasure working with them on a solid product. G-Shock took the extra time to find the right finishes and subtle details that compliment this piece.”

Available mid-April at Bloomingdale’s, Barney’s Co-Op, Union LA, MOCA, and online at karmaloop.com and in Europe at Colette.
