New York City’s 1977 summer blackout was the inspiration and theme for the Umbro x The New York Cosmos Blackout Collection. This past Wednesday marked the opening of a pop-up shop, at Reed Space Annex, with an all-black everything motif. A celebratory party, in conjunction with the new shop, produced by LTD Magazine’s Hawaii Mike, was held at Reed Space with DJ Clark Kent, who also happened to begin his DJing career in 1977. Below are photos from the event along with an animated film interview with Carlos Alberto Torres, a former Cosmos player from Brazil who depicts his trip to New York to sign with the club during the 1977 blackout.
Special thanks to the good folks at Umbro, The New York Cosmos, Jeff Staple/Reed Space, Exposure, and everyone else who came out to support.
23 on 23, Nigel Sylvester’s 23rd birthday, went down Monday night at 8Bond Studio in NYC. The night was hosted by DJ Clark Kent and LTD’s “Hawaii” Mike and was presented by Nike 6.0, Hennessy, Corona and Vibe Magazine. The crowd rocked to DJ Soul and DJ Clark Kent, who almost brought the house down, plus a surprised performance by J. Cole. Check the video and images.
On Wednesday, Nike threw an event to celebrate the release of DJ Clark Kent’s East Warrior AF1 and apparel release at the 21 Mercer store in SoHo. VIP guests were able to purchase the kicks and gear and were treated to the sounds of the man himself. He killed it while everyone drank and ate.
The undisputed king of Air Force 1s, DJ Clark Kent, holds a collection of AF1s that rivals none. The well known DJ/producer/Nike consultant recently compiled a top 50 list for Complex listing his favorite Air Force 1s of all time, from staple designs to 1-of-10’s. Check it out here.

Made a quick stop at Rime 157 to see the big homie DJ Clark Kent and grab a pair of Gucci dunks. They did a raffle for a couple autograph pairs.
