The major inspiration for Nike Sportswear apparel was the beautiful game, football (soccer for us U.S. people), with 2010 being a massive year for the sport. When Nike Football designers presented the on-pitch kits to the Nike Sportswear team, it “knocked our socks off,” Nike Sportswear Apparel Design Director Jarrett Reynolds says. The Brazil kit, in particular was full of amazing innovations. Jarrett and the team decided not to change anything, but instead, just take the football kit silhouettes and remix them.
The Brasil Pack will be the Brazil National Team’s travel pack. Players can mix and match from the collection to showcase their own individual style in preparation for match play.
As a 5-time international football champion, Brazil is one of the most feared teams in the world. Their signature bright yellow, blue and green uniforms and style of play belie a toughness that is proven by their ability to win. It follows that the most radical thing Nike Sportswear designers could do was to take the concept of Brazilian Yellow and turn it black. Stripping away the festive colors they are known for, but amplifying one. “It’s the Brazilian yellow that scares them,” a Brazilian player once told the Nike design team. For that reason, Nike kept the Brazilian crest yellow. The Brasil Black Pack includes the N98 Track Jacket, M65 packable jacket, Destroyer jacket, Loopwheeler AW77 hoodie and crew, Windrunner, jersey, short and cap. The Brasil Black pack apparel gives a twisted take on Brazil to create a super tough look.
The Nike Sportswear Icon series is remixing the N98 Track Jacket. The N98 was introduced in 1998 and was worn by teams like the Brazilian national football team. Its 2010 redesign features enhancements such as a flat knit rib collar and cuffs, bonded seams, and double-welded, zippered pockets.
Inspired by a match that moved the world, the N98 Track Jacket stands for “National 1998,” notably paying tribute to the 1998 Brazilian National Team. The N98 design takes off from the debut Brazilian team kit by Nike, tapping the classic zip-front track jacket’s deep heritage as a true icon of sport style. The Nike Sportswear team has made it a signature piece for spring, integrating it throughout the line, including creating a premium version for NSW Collection with Gore Windstopper fabric, laser-cut bonded RiRi zippers and reflective film across the back piping.
On Wednesday, Nike threw an event to celebrate the release of DJ Clark Kent’s East Warrior AF1 and apparel release at the 21 Mercer store in SoHo. VIP guests were able to purchase the kicks and gear and were treated to the sounds of the man himself. He killed it while everyone drank and ate.
In September, the NSW Collection presents the “M51 Parka”, Nike’s unequaled pursuit of a higher level of function, performance and style. The NSW M51 Parka draws inspiration from the all-weather military silhouette with an innovative Nike twist. Linerless 2L Storm Fit keeps the M51 light and capable no matter the mission, while laser cut pocket detailing and laser cut perforated pit vents make the M51 a Parka unlike any other. NSW tonal branding adorns the M51 to let all know where you stand.
Forged through a shared passion for innovation, meticulous craftsmanship, and authentic, high-quality fleece, the partnership between Nike Sportswear’s NSW Collection and Japan’s Loopwheeler continues with a series of products in premium loopback French terry fleece.
