[SNEAKERS] PUMA Shadow Society

The PUMA Shadow Society is a hand selected collective of trail blazers and PUMA connoisseurs who are also champions in the sneaker realm. This society had the privilege of creative control over the pair of sneakers; everything from the colors to the materials were chosen by the collective. The result are two pairs of crispy PUMA States, as seen above and below. These are set to release in the states at Shoe Biz and in the UK at Footpatrol, among other retailers, August 26th.

[CONTEST] Vans Custom Culture Program

Vans has begun the second year of its “Custom Culture Program” initiative where high school students across the United States highlight their creativity by customizing sneakers. This year’s top prize is $50,000 and the top five teams will be flown to New York to display their sneakers within a yet to be named museum.

The Vans Custom Culture contest begins registration on Friday, February 11, 2011, and will accept entries from up to 20 schools per state. High school students from art programs in five regions, including Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, Southwest and California, will have a chance to collectively tap into their creativity to craft designs for four pairs of Vans shoes, to be submitted for judgment.  All registration and submissions will take place via the Vans Custom Culture Web site atvans.com/customculture. An online gallery will exhibit the complete collection of submissions for the world to see.

After the initial judging panel selects the top 50 submissions, Vans will open the voting to consumers through an online platform, thereby narrowing down the competition to the top school in each region.

Winning schools from each region will receive a trip to New York City in June, and will participate in the final event gala held at a world-famous art museum. A Vans panel of industry experts will deliberate to select the winner of the 2011 Vans Custom Culture program and the winning school will be announced at the gala.

For official rules, program information, registration and submissions, visit the Vans Custom Culture Web site at www.vans.com/customculture. NIKE SPORTSWEAR HO09: LUNAR WOOD

Nike has teamed up with Wood Wood to take on lightweight and protection. The result of the collaborative efforts is the Lunar Wood TZ, a lightweight shoe that can keep you dry during the cold and wet winter. The shoe utilizes Nike Running’s innovative Lunarlite material with Dynamic Support technology to deliver an extremely lightweight cushioning system with maximum traction. Jesse Leyva, Nike Sportswear Footwear Design Director adds “For the upper, we took design cues from the original Wildwood Trail shoe and employed a rubberized mudguard along with ripstop nylon to keep feet protected despite harsh outdoor conditions.”

Inspired by Scandinavia’s harsh winter weather, the designers at Wood Wood and Nike wanted to make this a running shoe that combines ultimate protection with a distinct look. “We worked with the Nike design team on color selection, material variations and unique graphics to provide winterized protection against the elements. Whereas the original Nike Wildwood was designed for running in nature, this project is more about the urban landscape. We wanted to bring the shoe into an urban environment. The Lunar Wood TZ is made for the cold and wet nights. Other inspiration comes from combining the world of graffiti and nocturnal expeditions, the empty streets, tunnels, abandoned buildings, and jumping fences,’’ said Brian SS Jensen from Wood Wood. The shoe tongue embroiders Nike Wildwood’s ACG triangle logo with a crescent moon to keep the outdoor spirit. The bright yellow signature “W.W.” is boldly placed only on the left shoe heel. A unique graphic of full moon to eclipse sits on the sockliners.

To further keep feet warm and dry, P2i, Ltd.’s Ionmask™ technology was added by applying a nanoscopic protective polymer layer to the whole shoe, which allows water to form beads and simply roll off, instead of being fully absorbed into the shoe. Ionmask™ gives the shoe, stitching included, a superior water repellence. Shoes dry out quickly and won’t get heavier over time, while maintaining the natural airflow of their constructed material.

The Lunar Wood TZ will be available exclusively at Wood Wood on Dec. 11th following by a global launch at select Nike Sportswear retailers on Dec. 19th, 2009

About Wood Wood Wood Wood are Karl-Oskar Olsen and Brian SS Jensen. Based in Copenhagen, Wood Wood embodies a laid back blend of the underground and the avant-garde. In 2002, they opened the first of its three stores in Copenhagen, and introduced a collection of tees, sweats and hoodies. Over the past few years, an illustrious graphics profile has established Wood Wood as a driving force in the European street couture scene. In addition, Wood Wood actively engages in numerous collaborations and projects involving an international network of friends and likeminded creators.
